Business started in 1934 by Mr. Edmund Jackson Tong from Lincoln. Selling agricultural tools and equipment. Business passed down to his son Geoffrey Tong and now in its third generation owned by Mark Tong.

In 2004 E.J.Tong were a winner of the Mica Retailer of the Year awards. This was awarded after a mystery shopper visited the store.

The company has moved with the times and stocks many of the products you would expect to find in a modern hardware store, it has however, maintained many of its links with the agricultural trade and still supplies fencing, agricultural ironmongery and a large selection of nuts and bolts. Nails are still sold loose by weight.

There are plans to open a cook shop in November 2005. This will be on the first floor and will stock a large range of quality cookware, bakeware and housewares.
